Photography Student Success

The Phoenix Dance Theatre has premiered its spring tour at the Leeds Playhouse. Hannah Valis, Teacher of Photography and Art, has developed a relationship with Phoenix Dance over the past 18 months, and students have been given the opportunity to photograph the rehearsals and performances of the Youth Academy on a regular basis. This was a great chance particularly for those students applying to Photography and other related courses at university to enhance their portfolios and applications.

One of Upper Sixth students, Lauren Naysmith, had her photograph selected by the Phoenix Dance management and marketing teams to feature in the dance company's marketing materials. Her photo is the main featured photo and is credited in the programme. Her picture was chosen over many other professional photographers, showing how big of an achievement this is! See the prized picture below.

Vicci Hamilton, who is the Head of Learning and Development at Phoenix Dance visited the college on Monday to personally congratulate Lauren, as well as giving her a copy of the programme, a picture is shown above of with Hannah, Lauren, and Vicci.

Lauren is set to go to university in September, hoping to study Photography at Manchester Metropolitan University. She's been able to create a contact through Vicci, who commends her keen eye for dance photography, with the two keeping in touch for future projects and potential jobs.

Well done Lauren, it's a huge achievement - you clearly have a bright future in the industry!
