Enrichment & ND+

Alongside a strong academic profile, employers and universities look for students who have developed other interests, skills and experiences. With competition increasing to secure jobs and university places, anything extra that makes you ‘stand out’ from the average student will give you a head start. The enrichment programme at Notre Dame offers you this. There are many external and internal activities available as part of our enrichment programme including:

  • Football Academy
  • Volleyball
  • National Citizen Service (NCS)
  • British Sign Language
  • Knitting/Crochet
  • Model United Nations
  • Greek club and Amalfi Coast Trip
  • Conversational German
  • Drama Enrichment
  • Photography Club
  • Eco Team
  • Social Enterprise
  • Guitar Club
  • Brain Day

At the end of lower sixth, the College will run Enrichment Days where students can sign up for a residential trip or choose from a programme of in-college activities and day trips.

Recent trips have included:

  • Lourdes
  • Italy
  • Berlin
  • China
  • Peru
  • London Theatre Trip
  • Outdoor Activities Retreat
  • Mountaineering

ND+ sessions provide subject-specific support to enhance your knowledge and enjoyment of the subjects you study. In each of your subjects you will enrich your learning through numerous activities such as: speakers from industry and higher education; preparation for entrance exams to Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry and Law; external visits to industry; specialist subject visits; and participation in many subject-specific enrichment activities, for example, Maths Challenge, Royal Society of Biology Olympiad, and our Future Programmes which are partnered with many local Universities.

Work experience is not only valuable in its own right but also essential if you hope to apply to certain university courses (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Social Work, Teaching, Veterinary Science etc.). All students have the opportunity to complete a work experience placement during their time at College. You will have access to a dedicated work experience coordinator who will support you on a one-to-one basis to find placements throughout the West Yorkshire region. Work experience is compulsory for students on a level 2 programme, in an upper sixth Employment Tutor Group or who are completing a double BTEC/CTEC in Business, IT, or Health and Social Care. If you want help to find a work experience placement, please see the Work Experience Coordinator, Heather Taylor in the Careers office on the ground floor of Cuvilly or email her at h.taylor@notredamecoll.ac.uk

Run by students, for students the ACS is open to everyone, regardless of ethnicity! The society aim to celebrate the diversity of cultural customs, beliefs and practices within the various African and Caribbean communities that make up the Notre Dame family.

The ACS meet regularly to socialise and discuss activities, which in the past have included 'Rep your Flag' cultural exchange, fashion shows and food sharing. Events aimed at preparing students for the academic journey are also organised with the ACS and the support of local universities. Examples of this are the Kaleidoscope project, Explore History black history tours with the University of Leeds and Leeds City Museum and Talking Heads inspirational speakers events with Leeds Beckett University.
