Assessment:
The course is 50% coursework and 50% exam. An example of some of the units covered are Principles and Applications of Science 1 (Exam), Practical Scientific Procedures (Coursework), Science Investigation Skills (Practical exam), Lab Techniques (Coursework)
(Coursework), Principles and Applications of Science 2 (Exam), Investigative Project (Coursework), Diseases and Infections (Coursework) and Medical Physics (Coursework).
What do I need to study this course?
You will need grade 4s in GCSE Science/two Merits in Level 2 Science and a grade 4 in GCSE English Language and Maths.
What will I study?
You will learn various practical techniques used in industry, medicine and research. The extended Diploma meets the requirements of many universities offering vocational degrees such as Radiology, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Nursing. The Extended Certificate is worth the equivalent of one A-level and you would study this alongside two other qualifications. You will study all three sciences with a focus on biology and chemistry.
What next?
There are skills shortages in the science and technology sectors. Applied Science students have progressed on to a range of degrees such as Biomedical Sciences, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Radiotherapy, Animal Sciences, and Nursing.
