Sugar Rush for Business Students

On October 13, lower sixth business students were visited by two young Leeds entrepreneurs from Sugar Rush in Garforth.

Sugar Rush was originally set up by Harry Lynch and Tayla Harris in October 2019 to make extra money for their travel plans. When those travel plans were cut short by Covid, they decided to start Sugar Rush again, delivering sweets to the local community and posting them nationwide. In July 2020, Harry and Tayla opened a physical shop; Sugar Rush Sweeties in Garforth, Leeds.

When they spoke to our A-level Business and T level Business and Administration students, they talked about their journey and the experience – and pitfalls – of running their own business. They discussed many topics including how they devise marketing strategies and what it’s like employing staff.

Our students certainly found the experience sweet! Tian, one of our lower sixth students, said, ‘The talk was very inspiring; it gave us first-hand insight into how a business operates. It’s like putting what we learn into the context of reality. For example, COVID allowed them to turn a side hustle into a successful business through social media marketing. My favourite takeaway from the talk was turning from entrepreneurs to leaders as they talked about the struggles of managing a team to perform efficiently and being comfortable in the working environment.'

If all this talk of sweets has left you feeling peckish, you can explore the full selection offered by Sugar Rush here.
