Students Invest in Their Future

Congratulations to 10 Notre Dame students who’ve completed an investment mentoring programme, five of whom won a top prize at the programme’s awards event.

Back in October, 10 of our Economics and Maths students were selected to take part in this programme, run by Arrival Education and Investec. They’ve since attended monthly trading meetings with professionals from the investment industry acting as their mentors. They’ve also taken part in a Q & A with chief executives, and delivered team presentations about the shares they chose to invest in.

On March 10, our students visited Investec’s head office in London, where they joined sessions with senior management, were taken on a tour of the trading floor, and attended the programme’s awards event. Beating off stiff competition from five other colleges, a team of Notre Dame students won Best Presentation, and will be rewarded with a fine dining experience in Leeds. Congratulations to Piotr Krupa, William Foster, Kenzo Nogbou-De Groot, Phillip Castro Chitunda, and Neil Tchamambe, and also to Kelly Liu, Esther Amoako, Preta Gaspar, Tabitha Darko, and Patricia Botnaru, who took part in the programme.

Economics teacher Jonathan Lees said, “Our students learnt a lot about using their initiative, problem-solving, teamwork and resilience, as well as experiencing life in a professional workplace. They thoroughly enjoyed their trip to London, which provided them with the opportunity to see an investment bank in action and attend interactive sessions with bank employees. We are very proud of their mature conduct and hard work over the past six months.”
