A huge well done to the Notre Dame students who took part in the BFI Film Academy Leeds and Bradford cohorts hosted by Leeds Young Film. The premier of the 4 films created by some of our students was hosted at Pictureville Cinema in Bradford last Saturday and included behind the scenes footage as well as a Q&A panel.
The BFI Film Academy short courses help train and inspire the next generation of UK filmmakers and production crew, supporting them to develop new skills and gain commercial and cultural knowledge to help build a career in the screen industries.
Reflecting on their time on the course, students said:
T Level student Rian Alegue said: 'The experience was so good, because I got to actually create a film. One thing that I learned in the film industry is that a lot of people got the qualifications, but don't have the experience and the BFI gave me the experience. There's also a lot of people who have the experience with almost half the qualification so it's like combining them together. I enjoyed learning how to make a film. I'm very confident to go on go out by myself and actually make one.'
T Level student Grace Sebright-Pickard said: 'The event afterwards with the premiere was great and I enjoyed learning howe to write scripts.'
T Level student Oliver Steele said: 'We did lots of different things. You got to experience of every single part of what you do creating a movie. We got to do planning, pre-production, production you got to see anything from editing to holding a boom microphones. We got a great understanding of how the whole process works. We got to make new connections for future reference and it's just a good experience for everything in the media.'
Media teacher, Jack Ross said 'It was great to see the students at the BFI film Academy screening. The films were excellent they all had a variety of roles and as a media teacher it was lovely to see.'
