Women in Engineering Day

International Women in Engineering Day is celebrated annually on the 23rd June. It highlights the achievements of women in STEM and raises awareness about career opportunities.

To celebrate, our A-level Maths department took 36 of our Lower Sixth A-level Maths students to the University of Huddersfield to their Women in Engineering Day.

Students received an introduction from the Dean of Engineering, and then got to experience workshops on the different types of engineering courses offered at the university. Activities included making a robotic hand from cardboard, string and straws. To experience more of university life, students had a tour of the engineering laboratories for the automotive course and a sustainable energy course.

The day is designed to encourage young women to consider the wide range of options available in engineering disciplines. Maths A-level is essential to get onto these courses and the students were able to see just how useful to A-level is in practical contexts.
