On Tuesday 22nd September we were delighted to welcome Friar Richard Ounsworth, prior at Holy Cross, Leicester and Dominican Friar. Fr Richard also teaches scripture and New Testament Greek in the Studium, Blackfriars Hall, Oxford University, where he also studied for his PHD.
A Friar is a member of a religious order in the Catholic Church who takes vows of poverty and works out in the community; to preach and to pray, to educate and to serve the sick.
Friar Richard spent time with some A-level Religious Studies students and held a question and answer session on aspects of the A-level course. He also met with staff from across the college to explain about life as a Dominican Friar and the work he carries out. He then welcomed students at lunchtime into the lecture theatre, where he spoke about his background and journey, before answering questions. Our students and staff very much appreciated this insight into his work and the A-level students in particular benefited hugely from his wealth of knowledge.
