The Women's Rugby team was set up for the start of this academic year and the girls have taken it by storm.
There are just 8 female students on the team, with many of them involved in teams outside of college. See some highlights below -
Monina Crosby (L6), who has played rugby league for 7 years and is now just adapting to rugby union, has recently been signed with Michaela Magonya (L6) by Bradford Bulls U18s. Ella Lamptey (L6) also plays league for York Valkyrie U19s. Ella reflects on her time so far with the team - 'The team has been so much fun. We all became great friends and get on really well. We gelled together nicely and ended the season with lots of wins and only one loss. They made my first few months at college really easy'.
Victoria Walczak (U6), shares her experience on Women's Rugby at Notre Dame - 'I believe that as a team we have shown improvement and progression; our communication, knowing our positions, receiving and throwing the ball, and tackling as all improved. We got second place in a tournament within the university and this was such a good team achievement. Everyone is supportive of each other which is important within a team as it ensured no one would give up and keep our head high when playing'.
Michaela Magonya (L6), said 'When joining the team, it was something I had been looking forward to since I started college in September, especially once I found out there was a women's team! At first, it was challenging learning the rules and understanding the gameplay, but the support from the coaches and the other girls made a big difference. As the season progressed, I felt we really came together both on and off the pitch as a team. This was reflected in our performance and being a part of this team has helped me develop valuable skills - not only in terms of physical ability but also in communication and teamwork'.

The team were able to celebrate how far they've come and all their successes at this year's Sports Awards, with all the other teams. We can't wait for a new intake of students this year to build up the Women's Rugby team to it's full potential, on top of the strong foundations we have built this year.
