Last week was T Level Week, a national celebration that raises awareness of T Level qualifications and highlights the achievements of students, teachers and employer partners.
T Levels are two year qualifications available post-16 and are an alternative route to A-levels. They are designed and created with employers to meet the needs of industry and prepare students to enter the workforce. They work different to other qualifications; worth three A-levels, students only study their chosen T Level and will spend 80% of their time in the classroom and 20% of the time on a work placement with a real employers where students will gain hands-on experience in their chosen field. Notre Dame has delivered T Levels since 2020 and we were one of the first providers of the new 'technical' qualifications. We currently offer four T Levels at Notre Dame - Business and Administration, Digital Software Development, Health, and Media, Broadcast and Production.
We celebrated T Level Week to recognise the success of our students and the incredible teaching staff and regional employers who support our students on their industry placements. Staff and students put in the work to showcase their T Levels and success post-18, please see below.
Student Creativity on the Media, Broadcast and Production T Level
Students on the Media, Broadcast and Production T Level came together to create a promotional video for the course. The video highlights the practical skills they have learnt on their course. You can watch the video below.
They also created a podcast discussing the new Media, Broadcast and Production course. You can listen below.
Placement to Employment
We caught up with three Notre Dame alumni who were offered jobs following their industry placements.
Promise and Kaytlen had their placements at Cox Automotive and now work their full-time as a Service Desk Analyst and Software Engineer respectively. They talk through their placements, roles, give advice to prospective T Level students and speak about current affairs like the rise in artificial technology and working in STEM as women. You watch their story below.
We also spoke to Lewis, who was recently promoted to IT Manager at Aire Global, which is where he also had his industry placement. Lewis gives detail about his role and responsibilities, his previous expectations of a T Level placement and his progression throughout the company.
Digital Networking Event
Students on the Digital Software Production T level went to a 'networking event' hosted at Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College, to better prepare them for their upcoming industry placements. The event simulated a real networking event, where Notre Dame alumni as well as industry leaders were invited to network with our students, getting them used to those professional conversations.
