Over summer the Notre Dame Estates team connected with a local company, Over2Hills, and donated our old library furniture to them, following the Main Hall and Library renovations.
Over2Hills recycles unwanted office furniture from around the country and donates what has been collected to charities free of charge. Every year, they stop thousands of pieces of furniture being sent to landfill. Any items that are damaged are either refurbished or brown down into raw materials for recycling.
Jack Hipkiss, our Capital Projects and Estates Manager, said "We are really glad that our furniture was able to be repurposed by Over2Hills. It's fantastic that the furniture will have another lease of life and that charities are benefitting from our donation. Taking care of our common home is important and we will continue to work with Over2Hills to keep furniture out of landfill."
We have also been busy repurposing furniture for the new St Julie's Oratory, which is a quiet space in College used for daily prayer and reflection. Our Product Design Technician, Martin Speak has used his incredible talent to turn a table into an altar and lectern. Again, saving furniture from being sent to landfill, demonstrating how we can reuse and recycle effectively.
