St Mark's Way Pilgrimage

On Saturday 6th September, Anne Merry (Lay Chaplain) and Maria Coyle (Head of PTE) joined pilgrims from across the Diocese of Leeds as they walked the first leg of the St Mark’s Way Pilgrimage. The day started with the celebration of Mass at the Cathedral before embarking on the 16 mile walk to St Austin’s Catholic Church in Wakefield.

The group walked through Leeds to the Royal Armouries, along the Aire and Calder canal to Woodlesford before reaching open fields on the way to Wakefield.

Many friendships were made along the way and there were opportunities to stop and pray and we shared faith and fellowship. Accompanying us on our journey was the Medieval statue of St Peter (held by Anne below) which pilgrims were encouraged to carry during the journey. The St Mark’s Way was being walked across 8 days, ending in Nottingham with pilgrims from around the country.  We felt blessed to have been part of this walking pilgrimage in the Jubilee Year of Hope.
