Human Rights Letters

In PTE this term, upper sixth students have been learning about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the work of charities like ACAT, Christian Action Against Torture, to monitor and campaign against human rights abuses. Students were given the opportunity to write to a prisoner being held because of their work trying to protect human rights in different parts of the world.

PTE stands for Philosophy, Theology and Ethics and students have it for one hour a week. It is a core RE programme that develops students' knowledge and understanding of key issues involved in having a specific faith or worldview, or none at all.

Maria Coyle, Head of PTE said 'Our students are very engaged with issues of justice and we were delighted with how well they responded to the letter writing campaign, adding their voices to others from across the UK and beyond. We hope they will be inspired to seek ways to make the world a fairer place where the dignity of the human person is respected.'

One Upper Sixth student commented 'I enjoyed writing the letter - it made us more aware of these issues. I think that is good.'
