Earlier this month, 23 Notre Dame Law students attended the Human Rights Conference hosted by Leeds Beckett University in their Law building in Leeds City Centre. The conference explored the history and development of human rights, what human rights are, and how they apply in real-life situations. Key areas included understanding fundamental human rights, identifying when rights are infringed, analysing case studies, and encouraging discussion and critical thinking in a university-style learning environment.
The conference allowed students the opportunity to develop their understanding of human rights through interactive activities and case studies. It gave students valuable experience of university learning through lectures, seminar-style discussions, and collaborative group work with students from another school. Students also got to go on a campus tour which provided fantastic insight into university life, helping students consider their future progression into higher education.
Our students participated enthusiastically, confidently sharing their opinions, analysing images to identify human rights issues, and discussing real-life case studies with students from another school. We're really grateful to Leeds Beckett University for the opportunity - the informative and inspiring experience helped students to develop their knowledge, confidence and aspirations for higher education.
