HE Day 2026

Last Thursday, students benefitted from an inspiring and informative Higher Education Day, an annual event designed to support students in their decision-making for their next steps after college.

The event, which was compulsory for all Lower Sixth students, featured a carousel of activities throughout the day. In the morning, students had the opportunity to speak with representatives from 48 universities. This provided a valuable chance to engage directly with institutions from across the UK, including a strong presence of Russell Group universities alongside local providers.

A series of key talks and workshops also took place, offering guidance on essential aspects of the university application process. Representatives from Student Finance England delivered a session on ‘Student Finance’, helping students understand funding options and financial planning. Meanwhile, Newcastle University led an insightful talk on ‘Personal Statements’, equipping students with practical advice on how to present themselves effectively in their applications.

In the afternoon, students selected two subject-specific workshops, delivered by academic staff across 44 disciplines. Sessions included topics such as studying Architecture, Economics, and English at University, as well as broader discussions on student life. These workshops offered deeper insight into academic expectations and opportunities within different fields.

The event also highlighted alternative pathways, with support from the Employment and Skills Leeds ensuring students were informed about Apprenticeship opportunities alongside university routes.

Organisers Anna Dickinson and Liz Crick from the Careers team expressed their gratitude to all universities, speakers, and partners who attended. They praised the event as a fantastic success, supporting over 1,400 students in exploring their future pathways.

Representatives from the University of Liverpool were also full of praise: "It was a truly wonderful experience attending Notre Dame’s HE Day. The event was superbly organised and conducted, the staff helpful and welcoming, and the students confident, keen and with plenty of good quality questions. We are very grateful to be part of such a fantastic event."

A student commented on the day: "HE Day showed me the various courses that are on offer from different universities and the different entry requirements needed for these courses. Which helped me have an increase in the amount of commitment that I need to get the great grades and UCAS points that I need for when I go to Uni."

Higher Education Day proved to be a great success overall, giving students the knowledge, confidence, and inspiration to begin planning their futures. The Careers team look forward to hosting more events in the near future - including the Careers Fair on Thursday 23rd April.
