Tis the season to be jolly! - so don't let your home stay gloomy during this dark winter - embrace the warmness Christmas brings. We can begin in the comfort of our own home. Starting small, add lights to brighten up your room. Research shows this can reduce that solemn feeling of being stuck in the darkness for long, especially how it turns dark early outside. A little light can go a long way. Some sparkly fairy lights around some portraits or paintings can instantly create a more welcoming, aesthetic home. But don't limit yourself there, there are endless possibilities - decorate your windows, mantel, bedframe, or even your front garden. Cute fairy lights are available in shops such as The Range, Ikea, Home Bargains, any store near you, or more simply – add it to your Amazon basket!
Additionally, to feel more Christmassy, you have to be more Christmassy! Change up your routines with stereotypical Christmas items. For example, get yourself a warm Christmas jumper to your taste, because there are some ugly ones out there, buy some fluffy socks, and generally warm clothes. Not only does this help you keep warm this winter but also helps you get into that festive feeling. So, RUN don't walk, to Primark, Next, Hollister and TU clothing. 😉
On top of that, grab yourself some festive scents! I'm talking candles, perfume, bodywash and lotions. If you're a sweet not salty fan, I recommend smells such as ginger, vanilla, cinnamon or even toasted marshmallows! If you fancy a more woodsy, outdoor scent then spruce, cedarwood, and pine might be for you. Head over to TKMaxx with friends to do some candle smelling, as well as it being a fun festive hangout, it's also great for picking up some candles to decorate your home! The more, the merrier!
For those who really have a sweet tooth, or those who like to follow tradition, head down to Sainsburys, or The Range to grab yourself an advent calendar! What's more Christmassy than waking up to a nice chocolatey treat every day? There are varied types of advent calendar, so don't feel you HAVE to get a chocolate one! Personally, my siblings have a sweetie one, so it's really whatever tickles your pickle.
Now, let's not ignore the ultimate Christmas decoration... the tree itself! There are endless designs on how to decorate your Christmas tree. From the size and length of the tree, to the baubles, and even to the very top! Whether you want a demure angel, or a star, or even a bow! Let me help with some designs based on the colour codes of your living room. If your living room is warm toned, like red, warm beige, cream, or brown etc... then you could decorate your tree with warmer white fairy lights, golden LEDS, burgundy baubles, wooden ornaments like some pinecones! If your living room has more cool tones like white, grey, black, try icier white lights, decorated with glass, sparkly white baubles, and some silver linings. Of course, no pressure, if you want to whip out old baubles from the attic, which I probably will be too, then do so! A tacky Christmas brings a level of nostalgia from childhood like no other. Ultimately, nothing is better than some quality time, dressing the Christmas tree with family (that includes all the festive arguments).
Another idea to maximize quality time with family or friends, or even to have fun in your own free time- is to bake! Some Christmassy treats aren't so complex, like shortbread with three simple ingredients, butter, sugar and flour! Or boxed brownies with crushed peppermint to spice things up, or non-bakeable treats, like Chocolate dipped pretzels left to freeze, or reindeer rice Krispie treats, topped with chocolate chip eyes, a red M&M nose, and pretzel antlers.
So, with just a few of these festive ideas, your home can become a Christmas haven in no time!
