Charitable Action in November

It's been a busy November at Notre Dame for fundraising efforts across college. In total we've been able to raise over £1,000 for multiple different causes. As a Catholic college for the community based on faith, hope, and love, charitable action is key to us to help benefit and provide a supportive the community.

Children in Need

On Friday 14th November, it was Children in Need 2025 across the country. At Notre Dame, the Biology Department (with help from Anne Merry and Chas Oldfield) took the lead and raised an impressive £183 with sponge throwing and bucket collections. Despite the rain it was fantastic to see so much yellow and Pudsey ears around around college. Children in Need supports thousands of children and young people across the UK, by helping families through tough times or bringing joy to communities.

Sleepout for Homelessness

Also on Friday 14th November, staff and students took part in the Sleepout for Homelessness event. The event aims to raise money and awareness for homeless people, particularly in the local area. On the night, there were insightful talks from both St George's Crypt and Homeless Street Angels, who were also the charities we fundraised for. Unfortunately, due to Storm Claudia staff and students had to sleep inside on the night due to health and safety reasons, but still raised a fantastic £614 for the two charities. This money will go towards hot meals, accommodation, community outreach and foodbanks.

Support Staff Charity Bake Sale

Earlier this week, the support staff in college raised money for the Alzheimer's Society by hosting a bake sale for fellow staff. There was a huge variety of bakes, including some Christmas options!

Movember

Throughout November, individuals and organisations raise money for men's health, particularly mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. During the month, the college has been flooded with different varieties of moustache from both staff and students, some admittingly more impressive than others! So far, £115 has been raised but you can leave a donation here.

Student Initiatives

Students have also been fundraising through lots of bake sales for Doctors Without Borders and the Lourdes Pilgrimage - Notre Dame certainly loves a cake or two!
