On Monday, our A-level Media and T Level Media, Broadcast and Production students got to visit the Channel 4 Newsroom at their Leeds studio. Students were briefed on what a day in the life at Channel 4 News looks like, given a tour of their YouTube and TikTok content creation studio where they got to use the teleprompter, and three lucky students were selected to watch the broadcast live from the newsroom. Our students then had the chance to meet Ayshah Tull, a presenter, journalist and news correspondent for Channel 4, at the end of her broadcast. Our students asked some fantastic questions and gained first-hand experience of how live news is broadcast.
Students shared their thoughts on the fantastic trip:
T Level student Rian Alegue said: 'Channel 4 was good, because I got to actually see first-hand what went on during the production. I was one of the three people selected to actually sit in the room where they were doing the broadcast. I quite like looking at the cameras, because they actually are controlled from the people in London. I got to hear Krishnan (Guru-Murthy) interview Tom Cruise.'
Media student Daniel Gailis said: 'Channel 4 was a good trip, because we got to see how everything works behind the scenes we got to see the different roles. We got to meet professionals that work in the industry for many years and we got to ask many questions and they kind of gave us exposure on the daily life, how it feels to work in the media.'
T Level student Gabriela Nakanduungile said: 'The channel for trip was really good, because we got to see what goes on behind the scenes and how the producers put the program. We got to sit in the studio where they record the live news and we got to sit in the editing suite as well. To see behind the scenes of everything, I found that really enjoyable.'
Huge thank you to the Media department who have been fantastic in organising great enrichment opportunities for our students. It's been a busy couple of weeks!
