Last weekend, Team ND attended the Association of Colleges (AOC) National Championships in Nottingham. The weekend brings together the top sporting students from colleges around the country, each representing their county with the aim of winning the Wilkinson Sword. We brought representatives for Yorkshire in volleyball, badminton, table tennis, tennis, and endurance running.
The weekend began with a round robin in tennis, where Bertie Prudames-Slater from Lower Sixth represented Notre Dame and Yorkshire. Unfortunately, there were no medals but getting to this point is a huge achievement in itself and one that we are very proud of.

In the evening, the squad went to the Opening Ceremony at the University of Nottingham Sports Village. Here, all counties came together to watch the flag bearing from the captains from each team; Fola Aladese and Ethan Schofield from the volleyball team were the captains for Yorkshire, both from Notre Dame. There was also rugby legend Rocky Clark there as a guest speaker - the most capped rugby player of all time. She motivated players, highlighting the importance of the weekend and their achievement in making it to this point. On the night there was also dance performances from another college and the first showcase game of the weekend, men's basketball.

Saturday was an action packed day of sport with full days of table tennis, badminton, endurance running and volleyball. Upper Sixth student Ally Pang represented Yorkshire in Table Tennis, earning a Gold team medal. William Caleb competed in the men's endurance running, running an impressive sub-19 minute 5k race. Badminton and volleyball each had full days of matches, both heading into further matches on the Sunday.

On Sunday, badminton and volleyball competed in their final matches. The badminton team, made up of Notre Dame, Greenhead and Wyke College players had a clean sweep game against London, and then narrowly lost to South East; who went on to win Gold. We came away with Bronze - well done everyone!
