Yorkshire Evening Post: T Levels at Notre Dame

On December 23, Notre Dame featured in a Yorkshire Evening Post article, alongside one of our fantastic T Level students, David Baker, and Matthew Hall, the director of Leeds software development company Sycous, an employer offering industry placements to our T Level students.

The article explained that we have been running the Digital T Level since September 2020, and that this qualification is equivalent to three A-levels. From this September, Notre Dame will also be offering the Health T Level. You can read more about both courses, which combine classroom theory, practical learning, and 315 hours of industry placement, here.

Lower sixth student David Baker was quoted in the article: “I had started A-levels in IT, Computer Science, and Maths when one of my teachers suggested I switch to a T Level, an equivalent level qualification, as they thought it might better suit my career aspirations to go into a digital role. I started my Digital Production, Design and Development T Level this year and haven’t looked back.”

"I really enjoy the freedom you get with this qualification and there’s more independence than with A-levels. I’ve always wanted to work with computers and this T Level allows me to focus on my skills in this area. I’m looking forward to the industry placement - I think it will teach me different skills to those we learn in a classroom environment and allow me to apply everything I’ve been learning. I know there’s lots of opportunities for career pathways too as all organisations need people with digital skills.”

Our Principal Mrs. Justine Barlow added, “We are committed to equipping our T Level students for skilled employment, and committed to helping with the local and national digital skills gap. Leeds is described as the ‘Digital Nexus of the North’ and Notre Dame is well positioned with its extensive employer links to support the future digital workforce.”

Indeed, in the years following the current pandemic, T Levels will be vital in boosting the career prospects of our students and rebuilding the economy in Leeds and far beyond. We are proud to be part of that through our offer of T Level provision.
