Virtual Visit from MP Hilary Benn

Notre Dame students enjoyed a virtual visit from our Leeds Central MP Hilary Benn on November 19, and took the opportunity to question him on a wide range of topics.

Hilary is a great friend of the college and always makes time to see our students each year, this time online rather than in person.

Eager students went to the History and Politics Department to find out what a highly experienced MP like Mr. Benn does each day and what he thinks about the big issues facing Leeds, Britain, and the world. The lively Q&A included questions about MPs allowances, the climate emergency, and the HS2 rail project.

Afterwards, upper sixth student Ali Akhtar said, "It was great to see Hilary Benn. The event was a success and I asked him a question about voting systems.”

Student Karma Gad added, "I found the meeting very interesting and it was great to hear from an actual MP about current issues."

Head of Politics Allan Clifford said, "It was lovely to have a chance to talk with Hilary again albeit over a Teams link. He was informative, friendly, and engaged brilliantly with our students. Our students asked excellent, well-informed, and probing questions about a range of topical issues. We look forward to Hilary being able to visit us in person again soon, along with other local MPs.”
