Theatre Arts students contributed to a professional theatre piece during January 2020.
Bradford-based spoken word artist Kirsty Taylor and filmmaker Martha Kean visited Notre Dame on the 21st and 28th. They recorded our students as part of the research and development of a new theatre piece being written by Ms Taylor. #Herecoz will combine poetry, video and verbatim testimonies that capture the voice of young people who are left behind by the UK education system. It will also explore what happens when those young people are empowered to take action. The project is being funded by Arts Council England.
Theatre Arts tutor Ms Helen McGinty said, ‘This was an exciting opportunity for our students to contribute to the creation of a professional piece of theatre. They had the chance to collaborate with industry professionals, and participate in performance opportunities via film and recorded audio.’
The students involved were Oliver Coates, Isabelle Ghosh, Danika Sturdy, Ellie Durkan and Emma Rushfirth. Oliver and Isabelle are pictured below with Kirsty Taylor and Martha Kean.
