Four of Notre Dame’s students certainly know the drill, thanks to former Warrant Officer Class 1, Mr Robert Strachan.
Upper sixth A level Theatre Studies students James Burton, Matthew Leakey, Joe Judd & Tyler Pickles will be performing the play Britannia Waves the Rules by Gareth Farr. It tells the story of Carl Jackson, a working-class young man from Blackpool who, feeling he has no prospects or future in his home town, enlists in the Army. But the army takes him to Afghanistan and he returns home a changed man.
Our students will be playing the roles of soldiers who’ve taken part in military conflict. To give authenticity to the production, they were keen to learn how to properly perform military drill. They enlisted the help of Mr Strachan, who came in to college to instruct them. On 26 February he spent two hours explaining a variety of drill commands and showing our students how to put them into practice. You can see the results in the photo above.
The students will perform a preview of this production on 23 March 2020.
