From 12 to 16 March 2018, Notre Dame’s level 2 students all completed work experience placements as a compulsory part of their study programme at college. These placements provided a fantastic opportunity for students to gain an insight into the world of work, develop key employability skills, network with employers, and enhance their CV.
Students were placed with a huge range of employers across many sectors, including: Leeds Beckett University’s IT Department, Angel of Youths, Shine Business Centre, Oulton Hall Hotel, Green Pharmaceuticals, Boomchikkaboom Children’s Club, Plexus Law, Farrell & Clark (architects), Kamran’s Solicitors, BAM Nutall (engineers), Leeds City Council, Ramboll UK (geotechnics), Carr Manor Primary School, the office of Alex Soban MP, and Leeds Dental Institute.
The feedback we received from employers was fantastic. Staff at Headingley Hall said that student Sharone Magang was: ‘Eager to learn and patient. We have been so pleased to have her on the team.’
Student Joshua Owen Porter-Reynolds, who was placed with Angel of Youths, said: ‘I learnt about faith, identity and belonging. I also learnt about public speaking and communication.’
Lindsay Brook, Assistant Principal at Notre Dame, said: ‘Hearing from local employers about how the students on placement showed confidence, focus, maturity and positivity made me very proud. A number of students have since been offered full or part-time jobs or apprenticeships by their work experience employers, as they were able to demonstrate such strong employability skills.’
