Staff Engage in a Virtual Retreat

100 staff from Notre Dame’s community took part in a virtual retreat and liturgy via Zoom on Tuesday 7 July. This was our inaugural online event of this kind, and we were lucky enough to secure Fr Timothy Radcliffe OP, a speaker and author of some renown. He talked to staff about courage, using the biblical quote, “Be not afraid” as his starting point.

This was followed by a short liturgy, with prayers of intercession from Fr Michael Hall, one of the college governors. The lockdown staff choir gave their rendition of The Lord is My Shepherd, arranged and conducted by our Head of History, Mr Tom Dixon. The event ended with a reflection on the retreat's theme by Caroline O'Neill, followed by an instruction for the attending staff to “go out and do something for yourself.”

Staff commented that, “Fr Timothy's words were perfect.”, “It even made a non-thinker like me think.”, and “It was emotional seeing everyone and having a chance to reflect together.”

Our Principal Justine Barlow was delighted that, even with the challenges of the recent months, the ethos of the college could be maintained in this way.
