Reflections on Notre Dame: International Women’s Day

On International Women’s Day this year (Sunday 8 March 2020), we reflected on the origins on our college. Notre Dame was set up by women for the education of girls.

St Julie and Francoise Blin de Bourdon were friends who founded an order of religious sisters - the Sisters of Notre Dame – and came to Leeds in 1898 to build a girl’s school. More than 120 years later, we are still here!

St Julie has left us these words of wisdom: ‘True freedom is not being able to do anything anywhere, any time. True freedom is the freedom to be our best self. Putting God and our neighbour first, being our most loving self, will bring you great joy.’
