Congratulations to a group of our upper sixth students who won the West Yorkshire Bus Alliance, Bus to the Future Challenge!
Back in December 2019, 15 business students entered this competition, run by Ahead Partnership and the West Yorkshire Bus Alliance. They had to plan a marketing campaign promoting bus travel as the best option for younger students and the environment. This involved scripting a one-minute film, and presenting their ideas to First Bus. On the strength of their entry, one of our groups was chosen to work with Reel Film, to shoot and edit their video. They then presented the final product to a student audience at Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School, competing with 65 other students from five schools across West Yorkshire.
Our students were chosen as the winners! Well done to Meghan Fletcher, Patrick Flaherty, Emily Owen, Sophia Hudson and Mya Hanson. You can watch their winning film here.
These were the judges’ comments.
"I can see that consideration was given to matching the output to the target audience."
"A well-made film. I like the focus on positive benefits of using the bus, highlighting cost savings, social aspect and bus lane vs car. It's a good idea to have a reward scheme to incentivise bus use."
"I was impressed that insight was sought from peers, family and friends in developing the campaign. Good idea to incentivise engagement in the assembly via prize offer. Good use of YouTube and Instagram to target the audience using channels relevant to them."
"The film was really well made. I was impressed that thought had been given to how best to engage the target audience by focusing on the positives and the use of social media channels. I liked the proposed questionnaire to measure impact."
