Matty’s Golden Moment: Ex-student’s Olympic Dive

Here at Notre Dame, we couldn’t be more pleased for ex-student Matty Lee and his world-famous diving partner Tom Daley. The pair performed a series of spectacular dives at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre on July 26, winning Britain’s first Olympic gold in the men’s 10 metre synchronised platform diving. We’d like to take this chance to congratulate them both.

Matty studied with us from 2014 to 2016, completing an extended BTEC in Sport while training for, and competing in, various European and world diving championships. He teamed up with Tom in 2018, moving to London to work with him and coach Jane Figueiredo. In 2019, the pair won three medals in the Diving World Series, then took bronze at the World Championships in Gwangju.

Matty is one of the country’s most promising divers, and the recent Olympic games – his first – gave him the chance to demonstrate his skill, composure, and maturity. Across six outstanding dives, he and Tom Daley put themselves 1.2 points ahead of the world champion pair from China.

We can’t wait to see what Matty achieves next. We wish him and Tom the very best of luck.
