Here at Notre Dame, we recently received a touching letter and gift from ex-student and newly published author Ms. Jennifer Saint.
Ms. Saint, who studied with us from 2000 to 2002, sent us signed copies of the UK and US versions of her first book, Ariadne. In her accompanying letter, she said, “I studied A-level Classics with Miss Rothbury and Mrs. Maunders. Their teaching was so inspiring that I went on to read classical studies at university. I remembered the teaching of the plays and epics, and the art and architecture of the ancient world that I found so enlightening and fascinating at Notre Dame.”
Her novel Ariadne, which has been described as wonderfully executed, retells the ancient Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur from the eponymous female character’s perspective. It’s been published in the UK, US, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, New Zealand and more.
Both books are being proudly displayed in our reception area, although our current A-level Classics teacher and English Department were unwilling to part with it, as you can see from the photo above.
We are very proud of Ms. Saint and would like to wish her continued success with her debut novel. May this be the start of her long and distinguished writing career.
