Dedicated Art Students Show off their True Colours in Stunning Art Exhibition

A level Art students put down their tools and celebrated their successes and hard work with an end of year show.

34 students exhibited work for college students, staff, friends, family, and members of the public to see. The atmosphere was vibrant and bustling with bouncing music booming from film pieces, bold lighting reflecting from striking paintings, and happiness beaming from proud students’ faces.

The exhibition captured the wide variety of artistic disciplines studied including; print making, sculpture, paper cuts, textiles, photography, painting, film, installation and illustration.

The work shown was taken from coursework and exam projects completed by A level Art students in the second year of their studies. For their coursework portfolio students developed their own ideas, inspired by other artists and contextual references, following a path towards completing a final piece. They also each wrote a 1500-word personal investigation essay, using contextual references relevant to their work. Utilising skills learnt during their coursework project they followed a similar route to complete their exam, producing a final piece over a 15-hour.

The show was constructed and curated by the Art Department staff: Teresa Meehan, Paul Farago and Erin Hyde. The lighting was artistically arranged by Theatre Department Technician Greg Davis and technical support for film and sound pieces was provided by Media Technician Alex McDonell. Both upper and lower sixth students voluntarily aided in the hanging of the show, offering their free time to paint walls, sweep floors, or serve drinks on the night, all done so with impressive enthusiasm, proving their dedication to the subject.

The night was extremely successful with an abundance of compliments on the variety, quality and dedication of students. Congratulations and good luck to all A level Art students for whatever successes lie ahead!
