Huge congratulations are in order for one of our lower sixth A level Classics students, Carmen Rivas Perez, who won 3rd prize at the University of Leeds Classics Reading Competition on 14 March. Reading in the category Senior Classics in Translation, Carmen gave an inspired and vibrant performance from Roman poet Ovid’s Metamorphoses.
Each participant took part in one or more categories, staging scripts in either Greek, Latin, or translation. Performances varied between narrated speeches, poem recitals, and scenes from Greek tragedies.
Carmen took part in the 70th anniversary of the contest held at the University of Leeds. It was a tough competition with over 100 entries, including students from The Grammar School at Leeds and Bradford Grammar School.
