The inaugural Virtual Careers Fair for Notre Dame students was launched on Monday 8 March 2021.
Accessed via the college website, this bank of resources included a suite of videos from local and national companies that outlined the careers opportunities offered by them. Two panel discussions - one with employers from the digital sector and the other with current apprentices - were recorded exclusively for Notre Dame, providing our students with genuine and pertinent insights from people working in a range of organisations. The experienced industry professionals and apprentices who took part in these panels invited our students to contact them with questions, creating an opportunity for students to interact directly with employers.
The Virtual Careers Fair webpage also contained useful videos about apprenticeships, further education colleges in Leeds, employability skills (such as how to write a strong CV), and case studies of Notre Dame alumni. In addition, several live events ran during the week. These included an RAF webinar, a Careers Focus Day with PwC, a presentation about gap year opportunities with Raleigh International, an information session with West Yorkshire Police, and a talk with an experienced prison officer from Wakefield Prison.
All in all, the Fair was a great success, and the range of resources available provided strong support for our students in planning their future careers. Head of Careers Mrs. Anna Dickinson said, “The virtual careers fair is a new resource created by the Careers Team this year, embracing technology to ensure that our students still have access to high quality information from local employers across the Leeds City Region. All students have been encouraged to listen to the inspirational videos, watch the employer panels, and also sign up to live employer talks this week. It’s wonderful to hear from our Notre Dame alumni and see what advice they have for current students."
We’d like to thank all the staff from the wide range of organisations who gave up their time to be part of this virtual event. As well as those listed above, these companies included: BAM Nuttall, Clipper Logistics, IRIS Software Group, Salesforce, and Western Provident Association.
