Once again, Notre Dame’s A-level English students have been treated to an audience with author, poet and playwright Owen Sheers.
Mr. Sheers has published two poetry collections, The Blue Book and Skirrid Hill, which won a Somerset Maugham Award and was the 2018 recipient of the Wilfred Owen Poetry Award. Mr. Sheers read from Skirrid Hill - which is a set text on the WJEC and AQA A level English Literature syllabuses - during his virtual reading on Thursday 22 April, which was attended by 145 English literature students. He then answered questions from the audience.
Staff and students alike were delighted with the opportunity to hear Mr. Sheers read and ask him about his poetry. Comments made after the event included:
"We are all very grateful that Owen took the time to speak to us yesterday. It was a great experience, and it also offered some deeper insight into his collection.”
“He was, as I remember from last year, inspirational but warm and reassuring whilst offering us some real insight into the collection we are studying for A level.”
We’d like to thank Mr Sheers for taking time out of his busy schedule to speak to us.
