Advertising Unlocked Provides the Key to a Future in Media

For students with an interest in advertising, Friday 28 September brought a golden opportunity to visit global media and communications company, Dentsu Aegis.

When they arrived at the Leeds office, students were greeted by the Head of Marketing, who gave an introductory talk about the company, which creates effective branding and innovative media campaigns for a variety of multi-national businesses. This was followed by inspiring and interactive presentations from a number of industry experts who explained their roles, showcased their past work, and discussed how advertising has changed, particularly in regard to the exponential growth of digital platforms.

Our students’ marketing skills were then put to the test, as they were asked to work in teams and create a design brief for an advertising campaign promoting health and wellbeing. While they worked, the Head of Human Resources and graduate interns were on hand to answer any questions our students had. After a well-deserved lunch, each of our student teams presented their ideas to their peers and the panel of industry experts whose talks they’d listened to earlier. A winning team was chosen, every member of which won a £25 John Lewis voucher!

The Careers and Media Departments who organised the trip were very impressed with the day. Mrs Anna Dickinson, Head of Careers, said: ‘It was really well organised and the students seemed to learn a great deal. We’re very grateful to Dentsu Aegis for arranging such a variety of engaging activities for us.’
