On Wednesday 27 June 34 A level Art students took a trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park to partake in an artist-led sculpture building workshop.
The day began with a first-class guided tour of the park from artists Victoria Ferrand Scott and Paul Mason. The group engaged with the artwork dotted throughout the landscape and received a detailed presentation about the context and construction of pieces from leading artists Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Anthony Caro, and many more. Both Paul and Victoria talked about their education and career progression as artists, allowing a valuable insight into their field of work. They discussed their inspiration and motivation; students even had the opportunity to browse their sketchbooks!
Blessed with great weather, students took full advantage of the leafy setting and picnicked together for lunch. Embracing the glorious surroundings, they participated in an outdoor sculpture making workshop in the afternoon. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park provided an abundance of specially crafted materials and selected found objects for the group the work with. The art students impressed the artists with beautifully formed structures, and were complimented on their great team work and well thought-out themes and ideas.
A glorious day was had by all. Thank you to both Victoria Ferrand Scott and Paul Mason, and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
