What do I need to study this course?
Two GCSE sciences (including physics) at grade 6 or GCSE Combined Science at grade 66. You will also need GCSE Maths at grade 6 or above.
What will I study?
You will come to understand some of the main ideas and methods of physics and learn to apply your knowledge to solve problems. Topics studied in the first year include Particles, Radiation, Waves, Mechanics, Materials, and Electricity and in the second year Further Mechanics, Thermal Physics, Fields, Nuclear Physics, and Astrophysics. You will also study how to make measurements and evaluate errors and your skills will be assessed leading to a separate certificate to endorse practical competency.
Knowledge of physics is an essential requirement for many higher education courses and areas of employment, which could lead to careers in any of the following fields and many more: engineering, medicine and medical physics, industry, meteorology, computing, material science, scientific Civil Service, environmental physics, education, and geophysics.
