What do I need to study this course?
Grade 6 or above in GCSE English Language and preferably GCSE English Literature.
What will I study?
English Literature offers you the opportunity to explore a wide variety of texts, from modern pieces by new and innovative authors to writers such as Shakespeare. You will be encouraged to develop your own opinions of texts and shown how to search literature for evidence to support your ideas. You will be studying Love Through the Ages for paper one and Texts in Shared Contexts for paper two. Both of these units will be assessed through examination. You will also undertake the Non-Examined Assessment (NEA). This will take the form of an independent critical study of texts across time.
English is a valuable ‘all purpose’ subject, leading to many HE courses and future careers in a variety of areas including law, science and medicine. If you wish to study for a degree in English, this course is essential.
