All students at Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College are encouraged to participate in volunteering opportunities. The Careers department regularly circulates local, national, and overseas volunteering opportunities to all students via email, social media and on Moodle Careers. Notre Dame has developed links with local organisations including the West Yorkshire Police, Macmillan and the NHS to promote opportunities such as police community volunteers, hospital volunteering, and fundraising and events support. The college promotes national schemes such as the NCS programme, which focuses on developing students’ skills for work and life.
Volunteering opportunities include:
- Hospital volunteers
- Charity shops
- School mentoring
- Yorkshire Wildlife Trust
- Leeds Grand and City Varieties
- West Yorkshire Police
- Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire Cricket
- Alzheimer’s Society Day Centre
- International volunteering schemes such as ICS https://www.volunteerics.org/
Students can find their own volunteering opportunities by searching https://do-it.org/
Volunteering provides an excellent opportunity for students to help others and make a difference in the local community. Volunteering can also help you stand out from others on university and job applications. If you would like to discuss volunteering opportunities in more details please explore Moodle Careers and book a careers appointment.
“Volunteering for West Yorkshire Police is an exciting experience which has allowed me to make a difference for Leeds. It’s also enabled me to develop my confidence – working as part of a team, my people skills – communicating with the public, and my problem solving ability – carrying out operations. There are various operations, such as Operation Viper (targeting retail crime in Trinity centre), vehicle crime prevention and high visibility patrol, supporting PCSO’s and special constabulary. This scheme has allowed me to present a unique opportunity to diversify the police force here in Leeds.”
