There was a serious incident outside the College on Thursday afternoon when two Notre Dame students were assaulted by three males who were not our students. The two students were taken to hospital where they were treated for their injuries and we understand they are recovering well. The police attended the scene very promptly and, together with College staff quickly ensured the safety of all students and supported as necessary those who witnessed the attack.
We are assured by the Police that this was a targeted attack and there is no wider threat to the College or the local community.
There will be a limited police presence on the site today to reassure students and staff, but the College will continue “business as usual” and we are confident that we will soon be able to put this unfortunate incident behind us.
We will continue to ensure the well-being of any students affected by this incident and we will be reviewing our security arrangements in the light of what is a highly unusual incident for us.
Notre Dame is renowned as a friendly, supportive and welcoming community and we will not allow this violent incident to change that.
Mr T. Coen
