What will I study?

FIRST YEAR OF A LEVEL
You will study Education with Methods in Context, Families and Households and Theory and Methods.

SECOND YEAR OF A LEVEL
You will study Beliefs in Society, Crime and Deviance and Theory and Methods.

Sociology is a stimulating, contemporary and challenging subject aimed at getting you thinking about how British society is organised. It will help you develop analytical and critical ways of thinking and involves you studying the influence of social forces such as social class, ethnicity, racism, religion, gender, age, disability and globalisation on both social institutions such as the education system, the family and the criminal justice system, and individual actions. You will examine how sociologists use scientific methods and data to support or challenge sociological argument.


What next?

Sociology provides an excellent set of skills for entry to most university degree courses including in the social sciences, anthropology and criminology. Many students follow careers in law, journalism, the caring professions, policing, the civil service, advertising, market research, teaching, management and business.
