What will I study?
The qualification aims to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the principles of IT and global information systems. Students will gain an insight into the IT sector as they investigate the pace of technological change, IT infrastructure, and the flow of information on a global scale.
Year 1 (Written examinations)
In the first year you will sit two external tests. These tests will cover
– Fundamentals of IT
– Global Information
In the first unit you will demonstrate a solid foundation in the fundamentals of hardware, networks, software, the ethical use of computers and how businesses use IT.
The purpose of the second unit is to demonstrate the uses of information in the public domain, globally, in the cloud and across the Internet, by individuals and organisations. You will discover that good management of both data and information is essential and that it can give any organisation a competitive edge.
Year 2 (Coursework)
The second year is assessed through assignments.
During the second year students will produce a series of assignments based on the development of a product (computer game) using visual basic or another appropriate programming language and this will be assessed internally and moderated by the exam board.
This qualification will provide you with a solid foundation for progression to university, apprenticeships or work. This qualification has been developed with key industry employers (IBM, CISCO, Barclays Bank) to provide students with the right knowledge and competence required to enter into employment.
