What do I need to study this course?

THIS COURSE WILL BE DELIVERED AT LEEDS COLLEGE OF MUSIC

We require Grade 5 music theory and Grade 5 performance, or equivalent ability (by audition). You will need to provide your own instrument and make your own arrangements for instrumental or vocal lessons.


What will I study?

FIRST YEAR OF A LEVEL:
Component 1 – Appraising music
You will be require to listen to and analyse excerpts of music and to write an essay based on the music you have heard.
Component 2 – Performance
A minimum of six minutes of performance as an instrumentalist or vocalist or music production either as a solo or in an ensemble.
Component 3 – Composition
You will be required to compose two pieces one to a brief and the other free composition. A minimum of four and a half minutes of composition in total.

SECOND YEAR OF A LEVEL
The second year has a similar 3-unit scheme of assessment to the first year.

In addition to providing essential background for those preparing for a career in music, this course provides a qualification for further study in music (BMus, BA), and also for theatre studies, media studies, religious education, and the teaching profession in general.
